Dengue Spatial and Temporal Patterns, French Guiana, 2001
To study a 2001 dengue fever outbreak in Iracoubo, French Guiana, we recorded the location of all patients' homes and the date when symptoms were first observed. A geographic information system (GIS) was used to integrate the patient-related information. The Knox test, a classic space-time analysis technique, was used to detect spatiotemporal clustering. Analysis of the relative-risk (RR) varia...
متن کاملConcurrent Dengue and Malaria in Cayenne Hospital, French Guiana
Dengue-malaria co-infection reports are scarce. Of 1,723 consecutive febrile patients in Cayenne Hospital, 238 had dengue (174 early dengue fever cases) and 393 had malaria (371 acute malaria); 17 had both. Diagnosis of 1 of these 2 infections should not rule out testing for the other infection.

There is no proof that yellow fever occured in French Guiana before 1763. The first repcrt of “vomito negro” appears during the Kourou expedition in 1763. From 1763 to 1888, yellow fever was reported repeatedly. Epidemics were observed in 1765, 1793-1796, 1802, 1850, 1855 (with 27.2% mortality), 18731874, 1876, 1877, 1885. In 1902 an epidemic started in St-Jean-du-Maroni and reached Cayenne in ...
متن کاملDengue 1 virus and dengue hemorrhagic fever, French Polynesia, 2001.
An epidemic of dengue 1 virus (DENV-1) occurred in French Polynesia in 2001, 4 years after a DENV-2 epidemic that ended in 1997. Surveillance data from hospitalized case-patients showed that case-patients with dengue hemorrhagic fever (DHF) exhibited a bimodal age distribution with 1 peak among infants 6-10 months of age and a second peak at 4-11 years of age. The relative risk of DHF developin...
